USPTA/Bank of the West Ladies Invitational

The USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) is holding a special invitational tournament July 31, Saturday morning just prior to the semi-finals match of the Bank of The West Classic. This event is helping to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Classic and features four of the top USPTA lady pros who are not only working as pros but also still actively compete. The USPTA holds a number of tournaments for its members throughout the year. This invitational features a $3000 cash purse with the winner receiving $1400.

The format will be 2 matches, best of 2 sets out of 3 with a 10 point tie breaker for the third set.
The final matches will start at 10 am.

About the Players

Marina Georgieva McCollom

· Originally from Bulgaria, currently resides in West Des Moines, Iowa with her husband Adam

· Age 27

· Ranked top 800 under WTA in 1998

· Played #1 singles and doubles for the DePaul Blue Demons, Division I

· Won 10 USPTA Women’s Open National Surface Championships since 2008

· Currently Ranked #1 nationally in singles and doubles under the USPTA

· Earned the USPTA National Women’s Open Player of the year award for 2008-2009

· Earned the USPTA Missouri Valley Women’s Open Player of the year for 2008

Currently working at 7 Flags Racquet & Fitness Club as the Director of Junior Tennis in Clive, IA.


 Miranda Gutierrez

· Born and Raised in the Tampa Bay Area

· Ranked Top 10 in Florida in the 16’s and 18’s divisions

· Ranked Top 40 in the Nation as a junior

· High School State Champion in 2003

· Recipient of the Andres Garcia Memorial Tennis Award 2003

· Went to college on a full tennis scholarship to the University of South Carolina


Miranda is currently the Tennis Director at the Treasure Island Tennis and Yacht Club


 Zsuzsanna Fodor

· Originally from Hungary

· Currently resides in Ojai, Ca.

· Assistant women's tennis coach at the University of California, Berkeley for 2008-2009 season and the assistant coach at the University of San Francisco for a semester

· Cal graduate and as a student-athlete she was PAC-10 Player of the Year in 2006

· Six-time Hungarian national champion

Zsuzsi Fodor currently works at the Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, Ca. and brings a broad array of experience to coaching tennis and competing.


Kelly Wilson

· 5 time All-American at the University of Texas

· Reached a career high WTA ranking of #134

· Won 2 professional titles, including a $75,000 ITF Challenger (Wichita, KS in1997)

· Qualified for the 1996 US Open

· 3 time USTA National 30’s champion

Kelly is currently a Tennis Pro at The Gold River Racquet Club in Sacramento, Ca.
