Serena Williams Quotes During Post-Match Press Conference
Opening statement...
“I was just off today, and really I’ve been off this whole week. Hopefully I can get on track. In the second set, I just wanted to focus on winning the next point. I made some key errors, although it was good that I ended up winning that sixth game (during the second set) because it helped me at the end.”
On facing Czink’s left-handed serve...
“She served really well toward the end especially, and started mixing it up and serving big. I definitely could have returned better but this was still good practice.”
On the possibility of a three-set match...
“I would have been fine going three sets. I thought I desperately needed to hold, that way if we did go to three sets, I would at least start out serving. I would have definitely been into it and ready.”
On facing Samantha Stosur tomorrow...
“She has improved by leaps and bounds and I just hope I can stay in the match. Hopefully I will be playing a little better tomorrow.”
Venus Williams Quotes During Press Conference
Opening statement...
“I wish I would have played a little more consistent today. I had a chance in the second set to close it out at 5-3. Overall I think everything is going well for me so far.”
On facing Maria Sharapova tomorrow...
“I feel like that is a really good matchup for me and I always enjoy playing against Maria. It’s going to be a good match. The key for me is just to continue to play the way I do and execute my game the best I can.”
Melanie Oudin Quotes After Match Against Marion Bartoli
General thoughts on the match...
“She was tough to break today, especially in the first set. During the second set I had some chances, but she came through with some big serves on my break points so there was not much I could do about that. Overall I thought it was a good match. If I could have played like I did when I was down, I think I could have won the first set.”
On her play coming off Wimbledon...
“I was looking forward to my first tournament back after Wimbledon, and playing on the hardcourts again. This is my favorite surface, even though I really like grass now after playing at Wimbledon. I’m looking forward to the US Open.”
Marion Bartoli in Post-Match Press Conference
Opening statement...
“I also played Melanie in Charleston this year and that was also a difficult match. She is a young player on the rise, she played well at Wimbledon and has enjoyed a good run here through the qualifying session. I knew it would be tough but I was able to play the big points well and finish in two sets.”
Talking about her season progress so far...
“Yes I am pleased, of course. There have been good points and bad points but it’s very difficult to play at the same level. We have such a long season with so many tournaments. I’m playing well right now and I feel comfortable. And this tournament is a good spot for me every year.”
Jelena Jankovic Post-Match Press Conference
General thoughts on the match...
“This was a really tough match for me, especially since I haven’t played for awhile. I felt that I was a little rusty out there, and I need to keep playing matches and experience those situations. I had not played at night for awhile and it took me a little longer to adjust my eyes and reaction time. Early on, I was having trouble with the shadows and certain times I couldn’t see where the ball was going when she was serving or I was returning.”
On her gameplan throughout this tournament...
“We will see what happens tomorrow. I want to play matches and continue to stay in the tournament. The more I play, the better I get. That has always been my philosophy. The more I play, I become comfortable and that makes me dangerous as well. That’s when I start to play some real good tennis and at that point I feel like I can beat anyone out there.”
