STANFORD, Calif. (www.BankOfTheWestClassic.com) – The wildcard tandem of Lindsay Davenport and Liezel Huber edged the second-seeded duo of Yung-Jan Chan and Jie Zheng 7-5, 6-7 (8), [10-8] on Sunday afternoon, claiming the doubles championship at the 2010 Bank of the West Classic.

Playing together for just the second time since teaming up for a quarterfinal showing at the 2008 Olympics, Davenport and Huber padded their impressive career doubles marks with the victory. Davenport has now won 38 career doubles titles overall while Huber has claimed 43 career championships.

Davenport is familiar with the Bank of the West Classic hardware, as Sunday’s victory represented her sixth career doubles championship to go along with three singles titles. This week marked Davenport’s first Tour doubles activity since the 2008 U.S. Open, as she has been absent from the Tour due to the birth of her second child.

After both squads alternated games to reach 4-4, Chan and Jie briefly moved ahead 5-4. But Davenport and Huber responded by winning three straight games to take the first set 7-5. However, the tourney’s second-seeded pairing responded with a 7-6 (8) victory to even the sets at one apiece.

Davenport and Huber bolted out to a 4-0 lead in the super-tiebreaker, but eventually found themselves staring at deficits of 7-5 and 8-6. However, the American duo won the final four points to lock up a 10-8 win.

Chan was playing in her second consecutive Bank of the West Classic doubles championship, reaching last year’s title match with Monica Niculescu before falling to Venus Williams and Serena Williams.

Davenport and Huber enjoyed a relatively easy path to the championship, highlighted by a 6-4, 6-2 victory over the fourth-seeded team of Olga Govortsova and Alla Kudryavtseva in the quarterfinals.
